Open the gap between stud and spindle of the screw gauge by turning the ratchet in
anticlockwise direction. Place the given wire in the gap as shown in figure 1.11. Turn the
(iii) ratchet so that the object is pressed gently between the studs and the spindle.

(iv) Note main scale as well as circular scale readings to find the diameter of the given wire.
(v) Apply zero correction to get the correct diameter of the wire.
(vi) Repeat steps iii, iv and v at different places of the wire to obtain its average diameter.
