a: To investigate that water is essential for germination

1. Label the three petri dishes as A, B and C.
2. Put a layer of cotton wool at the bottom of each dish.
3. Place 5-6 seeds (soaked for twelve hours) in Petri dish A on moist cotton

wool.
4. Place 5-6 soaked seeds in Petri dish B but keep the cotton wool dry.
5. Place 5-6 un-soaked seeds of gram in Petri dish C on dry cotton wool.
6. Leave the three Petri dishes for a few days.

Note down the germination of seeds in each Petri dish and draw your
observation.

b: To investigate the effect of temperature on germination

1. Label the three Petri dishes as A, B and C and place a layer of moist cotton
wool in each of them.

2. Put 5-6 soaked seeds in each Petri dish.
3. Place the Petri dish A at 35 °C (in incubator), petri dish B at 4 °C (in refrigerator)

and Petri dish C at room temperature (20 °C).
4. Leave the three Petri dishes for one week.

Note down the germination of seeds in each petri dish and draw your observation
