Experiment To investigate the necessity of chlorophyll,
sunlight, carbon dioxide using appropriate
7.3 controls

Date ________________

Background During this process of photosynthesis CO2 combines with water to form
Information glucose and oxygen is released. Chlorophyll traps sunlight and convert it into
chemical energy which is used to synthesize food. Some leaves (e.g. leaves of
ivy plant, money plant, hibiscus plant) have yellow areas because of the
absence of chlorophyll. Such spotted leaves are called variegated leaves.
